About the Artist

The Rugby Player was written and illustrated by Kirk Serjeantson. This rag was completed between fathering my two kids, finishing my Rotman MBA and slashing through an intense and dramatic career.

I was an avid rugby player for 22 fantastic years. I played most my career with the North Halton Rugby club. Later, as the NHRFC devolved into a social club, I spent two seasons with Markham RFC. In my younger years, I had the pleasure of playing with Ontario U21 and for the UWO and Guelph varsity squads. Somewhere whilst playing rugby I earned ;) an education.

After four years of drinking, women and debauchery I was given a piece of paper stating I had my undergrad at the University of Western Ontario. Majoring in Kinesiology and Visual Arts I met a ton of great people including my wife. I started my second degree shortly after at U of G (still under construction).

Finally, the many years of molding and sculpting prepared me for an illustrious career in the transportation industry. The former Loomis Courier Service hired a young energetic Kirk E Serjeantson as a Major Accounts Service Representative. I eventually stormed head office and wrestled a position managing technology. Several Diplomas and Certificates later I could program, project manage and do general cool management stuff. Later, I was scouted by the big boys eventually landing a position at the largest transportation company in Canada.

Currently I am working on my MBA at the U of T Rotman School of Business. I highly recommend this program, I have met some awesome people and learned some cool stuff.

Today I am a productive part of corporate Canada. Despite the verbiage in the comic…I really do enjoy my job. For sure I work with some knobs (I although the biggest knob was “let go” recently) but all in all I work for a great boss on a great team.

Hopefully readers of the comic don’t think I am nuts. I am not violent, nor depressed, nor unhappy. I am a well adjusted manager who likes to draw cartoons.
